Due to the popularity of Pokémon in the late 90's and early 2000's, many pirated video games were made starring various Pokémon. These include games like Pocket Monster and others. But, there were also many hacked games made to include Pokémon characters replacing the original characters. These barely changed any aspects, if any, from the original games they were trying to pass off as Pokémon games.
NES hacks
Most Pokémon hacks were released on the NES or Famicom. Due to suitable graphics of the characters not existing at this point, the majority of graphics are poorly drawn and mis-colored.
Pokémon Golden

Hack of Tom and Jerry on NES that replaces some of Jerry's graphics with Eevee.
Pokémon Yellow
- Ver. 1: Hack of Tiny Toon Adventures where some of Buster Bunny's graphics are replaced with Pikachu, and the turning sprite after running fast is a garbled Mario sprite.
- Ver. 2: Hack of Felix the Cat where Felix is replaced with a gray Pikachu.
Pokémon Green and Crystal

Both are hacks of Kero Kero Keroppi's Great Big Adv. 2. One features a green Jigglypuff (Clefairy on the title screen), while the other features a more generic monster character.
Pokemon Blue
Hack of Wacky Racers on NES that replaces Muttley's graphics with Blastoise.
Pokemon Red and Pokemon 2000
Hack of Mitsume ga Tōru that replaces some of Hosuke Sharaku's graphics with Charmeleon. The game starts with the level 2 instead of level 1.
Pokemon Silver
Hack of Little Nemo: The Dream Master that replaces some of Nemo's sprites with Sandshrew.
Game Boy Hacks
Pokemon Diamond and Jade
- Main article: Pokémon Diamond and Jade
Bootlegged versions of Keitai Denjuu Telefang 1. The Power version was used to make Diamond, and the Speed version was used to make Jade. These games have numerous glitches and translation errors that weren't present in the original game.
